There’s something special about this time of year here in Spain.

All week we’ve been watching the Easter celebrations unfold – Semana Santa

The streets filled with tradition, reflection, and community

A powerful reminder of how deeply rooted some things are

And at the same time…how quickly life moves on

This year, as all of that was happening around us, we packed up and headed across to Portugal

To spend Easter with some of our closest friends

Friends we first met online many years ago and who, like us, have built their lives around the freedom that an online business can bring

It was one of those weekends you wish you could slow down just a little

Long walks along the coast (although some felt more like mountain goat climbing than relaxing strolls )

Fresh air, sunshine, and over 10,000 steps without really thinking about it

And of course good food, great conversation, and plenty of laughter

But what we always enjoy most on these weekends is the conversation

The chance to step back, to look at things differently

Share ideas and perspectives

Even though we work in different markets, there’s something refreshing about seeing things through another lens

And often… that’s where the best ideas come from

What really stood out to us on the drive back home to Spain was this:

This lifestyle didn’t happen by accident

It was built over time with intention

And with a willingness to do something different

Which is always a lovely reminder that when you build something the right way,
it continues to work quietly in the background

We’re back from a wonderful 4-day city break in Lisbon Portugal – a few days of walking, talking, exploring, eating well, and simply enjoying a change of scenery

And it reminded us (again) why we designed our business the way we did

While we intentionally stepped away from day-to-day work, our business didn’t stop…

People joined our business and commissions continued to come in…Not because we were “working harder,” but because the foundations were already in place

In fact, all we really did was share a little of what we were enjoying in Lisbon on social media each day and that’s exactly how our business is designed to run

And yes we did get to see the famous #28 Tram that runs around the centre of Lisbon as well as many other fun things 

That’s what freedom looks like to us

Not doing nothing — but having choice.

And choice doesn’t happen by accident

It’s built on decisions, habits, and principles repeated over time

This past week we packed up our laptops and phones and left our home office in Manilva on the Costa del Sol for a little adventure in Almería — a fascinating corner of Spain.

Almería is a region of contrasts. On the one hand, it’s one of the sunniest, driest spots in Europe, with dramatic desert and mountain landscapes (you may even recognize it from old western movies filmed here!). On the other, it has miles of beautiful white sandy beaches, charming whitewashed villages, and a relaxed pace of life that makes you think, maybe this could be our next home in Spain…

We stayed in a beautiful house tucked away in the mountains, run by the most inspiring couple.

He’s a former Michelin Star Chef, and she’s a former computer programmer. Now in their 60s, they’ve carved out their own version of a Hybrid Retirement lifestyle — welcoming guests, sharing amazing food, and enjoying the slower pace of life in one of Spain’s most stunning regions

Proof that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and design a life that fits your dreams

For us, it wasn’t just a holiday. It was a chance to slow down, take time for ourselves, and reflect on what’s next.

That’s the gift of Hybrid Retirement: the ability to blend meaningful work with the freedom to travel, explore, and plan your future — all without waiting for “someday.”

We set up the laptops in our little hideaway, caught up on a few things (yes, there are photos of us working away while sipping coffee in the sunshine ), and then closed them down again to head off exploring.

Every year feels more precious as you get older, and that’s why we live each day with no regrets. This lifestyle reminds us constantly why we do what we do — and why we’re passionate about helping others over 50 find freedom, flexibility, and purpose in their later years.
