We’re back from a wonderful 4-day city break in Lisbon Portugal – a few days of walking, talking, exploring, eating well, and simply enjoying a change of scenery

And it reminded us (again) why we designed our business the way we did

While we intentionally stepped away from day-to-day work, our business didn’t stop…

People joined our business and commissions continued to come in…Not because we were “working harder,” but because the foundations were already in place

In fact, all we really did was share a little of what we were enjoying in Lisbon on social media each day and that’s exactly how our business is designed to run

And yes we did get to see the famous #28 Tram that runs around the centre of Lisbon as well as many other fun things

That’s what freedom looks like to us

Not doing nothing — but having choice.

And choice doesn’t happen by accident

It’s built on decisions, habits, and principles repeated over time

Which brings us to something we wanted to share with you today

We recently watched a video by Dean Graziosi called “Your 10 Personal Principles for a Successful 2026”

➡ Watch the video here

After you’ve watched it here’s a recap of these principles…

Principles that apply whether you’re building an online business, planning retirement, or simply wanting more from this next chapter of life

10 Personal Principles for a Successful 2026

(Dean Graziosi–inspired)

1. Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life
No blaming. No excuses. Every choice you make shapes what comes next.

2. Protect Your Mind and Focus
What you allow into your attention determines your results. Guard it wisely.

3. Surround Yourself with the Right People
Your environment matters. Choose people who encourage growth and possibility.

4. Set a Vision – Then Act Daily
Big goals only work when they’re translated into small, consistent actions.

5. Take Bold, Uncomfortable Action
Growth lives just outside your comfort zone. Waiting costs more than trying.

6. Be Solution-Focused, Not Problem-Focused
Ask better questions: How do I move forward from here?

7. Persist Until You Succeed
Progress beats perfection. Every step counts if you refuse to quit.

8. Say No to What Doesn’t Serve Your Growth
Your time and energy are valuable — protect them.

9. Build Discipline in the Small Things
Daily habits around health, focus, and consistency compound over time.

10. Think Big — Daily
Success isn’t one decision. It’s a mindset you choose every day

Reading through these, we were struck by how closely they align with what we’ve experienced over the last 15+ years

Freedom – whether that’s travel, flexibility, better health, or financial security is rarely about one big leap

It’s about living by principles that support the life you want, day after day

And this is exactly what we encourage you to do too…

Build something that supports your life – not one that traps you in it!

Because mindset and principles are the foundation of every successful lifestyle business and every fulfilling next chapter

To help you set those all important goals and prepare you each day for a better life check out the app we use daily here

In our next newsletter we have some exciting news for you to help you build your freedom faster!

Endless Possibilities https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/endless-possibilities/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/endless-possibilities/#respond Mon, 26 Dec 2022 16:29:53 +0000 https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=2478 We’ve recently been thinking about our bucket list

With 6 days until the end of the year as we write this on 26th December 2022

It’s that time of year for reflection isn’t it?

We none of us know how long we have to fulfil our dreams and goals do we?

The older we get the more we think about it

So our advice during the holidays is this : Take some time to write your your own bucket list

Note ‘bucket list’ not ‘goals list, and not a ‘New Year Resolutions’ list

Let’s begin…

It doesn’t have to be travel 🎒 🧭 (but who doesn’t love ❤ travel ✈🏖🏔)

It doesn’t have to be something BIG like moving to live in a new country like we want to do

It might be movies 🎥 🍿 you want to watch, restaurants you want to try, getting fit and healthy, losing weight, learning a new language (we’re learning Portuguese), starting a new business, sports you want to have a go at

Susan’s bucket list includes starting ice skating ⛸ lessons again which she really loved as a teenager…

Susan’s Mum gave gifted her ice skating boots and she cherished them until they were too small for her (she had tiny feet) and then she got her own white skates…

Chris however wants to go to Borneo to see the orangutans…

Photo by Simone Millward on Unsplash

And to sky-dive in Dubai with views of the iconic Palm Jumeirah Island 🏝

Photo by Darcey Beau on Unsplash

So we have some things we want to do – not necessarily together either

Seriously though you don’t need 101 things though!

Yes there are endless possibilities…

Just get started…

Just think of 10 things you’d love ❤ to experience that you haven’t yet and make a list with deadlines of when you’d love to achieve them

Then put it somewhere visible

Make it happen!

It’s so easy to get caught up in the grind of life, we forget what’s important…

What it is we live for

As I write this I’m reminded why Chris and I started our online businesses in the first place back in 2010.

There were so many places we wanted to visit in the world 🗺, adventures and experiences and we needed to get our retirement savings back on track!

We deserved to be able to do them and saw no hope of that given our circumstances back then working 60-70 hours a week at the beck and call of our clients and tied to the U.K.

Today we’re grateful we made that challenging leap and if it all ended right now know we’ve done some amazing things and travelled 🧳 to so many places we never thought we would

Are in the best health possible because we’ve made that a priorty

Helped a lot of people fulfil their dreams and goals

Achieve financial security in their retirement

So we talk from experience not from a text book

Creating a list of some of the things we’d love ❤ to experience in the world 🌎 and reminding ourselves often of all the amazing things there are still to do and see, can help maintain your enthusiasm and mental well-being when times are tough or challenging

Life is happening right now, so don’t miss it!

As we often hear and should remind ourselves

“𝐷𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑔𝑜𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚𝑠”

So with 6 more days until we start a brand new year what will be on your bucket list?

What will make you happy 😃?

We would love you to share with us either here or on our Facebook post or Instagram post

You will recognise the post by this image below

And our favourite saying which we shared (and you can see on our socials)

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… it’s learning to dance in the rain”

The images are those we saved of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico which is on our bucket list of vacations for 2023 amongst many more

Enjoy the read, give us a “thumbs up” 👍below and do go and create that bucket list

Bring those dreams to life

Until next time…

Change Your Life To Get A Life https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/change-your-life-to-get-a-life/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/change-your-life-to-get-a-life/#respond Tue, 23 Aug 2022 08:02:08 +0000 https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=2288 Yesterday as is how things happen a very special video appeared in our social media newsfeed

It was from Prince Ea (aka Richard Williams)

He’s known for his inspirational video messages

This one was no exception and probably the most impactful since it speaks to all of us fearful of change

Change Your Life To Get A Life – Start Changing Your Life!

Here’s the transcription of the written word if this how you like to consume information

Change Your Life To Get A Life

I have studied personal growth for a decade, read thousands of books and I’d like to explain my main insight. This might sound strange, but it is my greatest advice. Listen close, I’ll make it concise. The quickest most efficient way to change your life is to change your life. Rearrange your life, architect your existence. It is as simple as this. Think about a seed 🌱. If you plant a seed 🌱and it doesn’t grow, no matter how much you try and toil, you mustn’t blame the seed because the fault lies with the soil.

I visited a graveyard not too long ago. And as I walked around that cemetery, I noticed something. On every tombstone , every single one, there’s two things. A birth date and a death date. B to D. And then I realised that our lives, our very existences, are summed up, totally encompassed in that line between the B and the D. Maybe that’s why they call it a life line, because our life is that line. And if our lives are in between the letter B and the letter D, in that joint, then that means our life is the C. And the C is choice.

Now, look, I’m not here to preach about life after death. I want to talk about something more important, life before death, because from cradle to grave, your life is the sum total of every choice you have ever made. And according to some scientists, the average person makes 35,000 choices per day, but I don’t believe that, because if people made that many conscious choices every day, their lives would be different. And most people are so asleep, with their head down, moving so fast that they don’t see their choices are being made on their behalf.

Let me explain. Do you know the number one predictor for how long you are going to live? Is it, A, blood pressure, B, exercise, or C, genes?

It’s D, none of those.

New research shows the best predictor for how long you’re going to live is not your genetic code. It’s your zip code. Zip code. Look it up. Where you live decides how long you live, because your opportunity determines your possibilities. Your map 🗺determines where you get to. See, life is not like a box of chocolates, it’s more like a restaurant, and your choices are limited to what’s on the menu.

Where am I going with this? I’m saying

“If you want to eat the real food of life, you must have the courage to order off the menu. Let me spell it out for you. Move, travel, change your environment, escape your comfort zone.

Yeah, it’s hard, damn right it’s hard. Sometimes you’ve got to cut the finger to save the arm. Sometimes you’ve got to cut friends out of your life, and it will be sad, but you must hang with people with a common future, not just a common past. And don’t worry about your mistakes, don’t even be concerned, because as they say, sometimes you win and sometimes you learn. This I can confirm, second chances do exist. I don’t care what you did in those streets. The universe allows U-turns, but you must make a new choice, decide on a new path. And when your time comes, I pray in the middle of your B and D is a squiggle, not just a dash.

Thank you Peacock for sponsoring this video. I want you guys to check out Bel Air, which tells an important story about the power of second chances. Do not let the opportunity that comes your way disappear.

Take that chance. Peace.

What more can we add except…

Second chances do exist – don’t pass them up for fear of what might be!

Powerful words

LYRICS OF WHEN I’M 64

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine

If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

You’ll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

What were you doing at 64?

For Susan the year would be 2019

It was the year Mum was diagnosed with Alzhimers and we began to plan for the changes this would make to our lives including moving home to our current location making it easier for her to continue living independently and for us to support her

Retire Inspire! the book where we were collaborative authors was published and we started our Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast on the back of the stories we read of how other professionals can achieve and have achieved a totally fulfilling retirement their way

We invested in a training that would lead us to being invited to Las Vegas to meet Tony Robbins. That course completely changed the trajectory of our business and renewed our vision for teaching and training which we focus on to this very day

We also finally got to meet Robert Kiyosaki in London

For Chris the year would be 2017

Lots of things happened in 2017

We met Gary Vaynerchuk in London, and got to ask him a question about becoming an entrepreneur in retirement. His response was classic Gary V!

We spent quality time at our home in Spain enjoying the sunshine and working on our business.

The highlight was definitely an invitation to Singapore where we were invited to speak at an event. It’s a place that had been on our ‘bucket list’ for a long time and we wanted to spend time there together. The event was amazing and we met some incredible people but to be able to visit those iconic places like Marina Bay Sands, The Harbour, Raffles left us feeling truly blessed

And on a personal note having lost the last of our beloved cats and feeling bereft, we fostered a mischievous ginger tom who we called BOB after the cat made famous in the book and film A Street Cat Named Bob We felt their stories were so similar it was the perfect fit!

We’ll never forget him but he has a perfect forever home now

So that’s us at 64!

In 2021 as we write this we’re still the midst of a global pandemic due to the coronavirus and Susan’s Birthday on 19th July is set to be the date that the UK has said it will lift restrictions it has placed on it’s citizens for the past year or more. If it happens it will be a very special day we’ll remember for the rest of our lives

For Susan though it represents the day she can draw here ‘old age‘ pension but don’t tell anyone will you

Hope you enjoyed our trip down memory lane with when I’m 64 and if you are 64 or over would love to hear what you were doing in 1967

What Does Someone Approaching Retirement Want? https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/what-does-someone-approaching-retirement-want/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/what-does-someone-approaching-retirement-want/#respond Fri, 15 Jan 2021 11:57:19 +0000 http://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=1613 There’s a song by the Spice Girls called Wanabee and the line in the lyrics that stands out is “tell me what you want, what you really, really want

And that’s exactly what we want to cover in this article based on our personal experience and the clients we’ve worked with over the years who we’ve helped define Living The Retirement Lifestyle for them.

There are many things to consider as you approach retirement. It’s good to start by reviewing your finances to ensure your future income will allow you to enjoy the lifestyle you want.

Let’s look at what does someone approaching retirement want?

The top things we’ve ascertained are

Lifestyle

Freedom

Money

We have our own which are PEACE, FREEDOM & FINANCIAL SECURITY

Retiring is a huge life event and many aspects to consider. Like most people of any age, you probably think retirement is nirvana (a place of perfect peace and happiness, like heaven), you think it’s going to be fantastic because after all that’s what you worked for the last 40 years.

It was the same for us but we had a big wake up call in 2008 when all the retirement planning we had done went west

about:blankAdd titleWhat Does Someone Approaching Retirement Want?

We’d invested our hard earned savings into a property portfolio which would provide our retirement income

Like many professionals, we didn’t have a company pension or a 401K (for our USA cousins) so we had to do the best we could with what we had

So now we know what we want for our retirement we have to plan for it

Talking Retirement Planning

Finances

A vital consideration in retirement planning obviously involves some financial plannng as we discussed above and organising your money so you can work out what you’ll have to live on. It can be a real shock to realise that you don’t have enough money to have the lifestyle you anticipated.

We highly recommend financial advice from a professional in this regard as it will save you a lot of heartache the earlier you do this.

Lifestyle

Writing down your aims may help you focus on what you really want to achieve – like a ‘to do’ list. Work out what you can afford to do and schedule time to make it happen, so you experience a sense of accomplishment, as you would have done at work.

The lifestyle planning may include for instance where you’re going to live, whether you want to upsize, downsize, move to a different country, move to the beach… any multitude of things

Keeping your brain active is also very important and numerous studies have shown that learning in later years can help people stay independent, so use your free time to continue to challenge yourself mentally, whether it’s learning an instrument or a language or getting a qualification… perhaps even starting a business!

And then of course there’s keeping fit and healthy. We should all aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, so build up to this if you haven’t made exercise a normal part of your life previously. Why not sign up for a charity event to give you a goal to work towards?

Travel more

We had to make special mention of this because it has come up so often in conversations with our clients. If you’ve always dreamt of going on an around-the-world cruise, a wine-tasting trip through Italy, or even taking a challenge like walking the Himalayas, now you can finally make those long-held plans a reality, depending on your health and budget limitations.

If longer trips aren’t practical, mini breaks may be a good alternative – or even days out to places you’ve never visited before.

Challenges

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, both health-wise and in general, and doing something different can be a refreshing change. Some people have found that simple changes, such a joining an exercise class or a language class they haven’t done before gives them a new zest for life.

Retirement can bring testing times such as loneliness and changes to relationships, self-esteem and health, but how you deal with these can make all the difference.

Whatever your situation, retirement can also offer the potential for positive change – whether that’s volunteering for a charity, resolving to eat healthily or becoming more active.

The most successful retirement transitions are people who see it as a growth opportunity, where things they’ve always wanted to do become possible (sometimes through necessity even) and treat it like a new beginning.

If you’ve not read it, we have a book published on Amazon Retire Inspire where along with 23 friends and entrepreneurs from different backgrounds, business and careers, we give our thoughts on retirement in the 21st Century and some of the things we’re doing to make it the best time of our lives

Retiring is the biggest social trend on the planet!

If you are thinking about retirement this is a must-read. In 2016, the first of the Baby Boomers started to turn 70. This has triggered the largest social phenomena on the planet – retirement. This year and for the next 20 years EVERY day will be a world record for people retiring!

If you’ve not read our story, you can find out what we did to create the perfect retirement lifestyle – something we never thought in a million years we would be doing. Funny how life turns out isn’t it 🙂

Thanks for reading “What Does Someone Approaching Retirement Want?” and hope we’ve given you some ideas and thoughts on what someone approaching retirement wants

Can A Side Hustle Rescue Your Retirement https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/can-a-side-hustle-rescue-your-retirement/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/can-a-side-hustle-rescue-your-retirement/#respond Wed, 21 Oct 2020 17:19:52 +0000 http://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=1385 Can a side hustle rescue your retirement?” is quite a big ask you’ll probably agree and quite frankly most people will look on it with some skepticism which is actually a shame because if you know how to do something people would hire you for and you know how to make it available to them then there are numerous ways you can generate an income from a retirement side hustle.

The truth is that whilst most financial gurus will tell you to get a steady job and put your money into some kind of pension savings scheme, a 401(k) in the USA, etc and then, 40 years later — if you play your cards right — you can finally retire comfortably.

It truly isn’t real life… certainly not from our perspective or the perspective of many we have spoken to over the years of encouraging entrepreneurship of some kind to help people to live their retirement lifestyle dream.

Sadly many of those are remaining in employment past retirement to supplement their retirement savings or worse having to seek employment when they realised that their money might run out before their time”

“When Exactly Were You Brainwashed Into Thinking the Best Way to Earn a Living Is to Have a Job?”
– Seth Godin

The truth is that is has never been easier to get rich than it is right now (even during a pandemic as we write this article) and many are creating the retirement lifestyle of their dreams through a side hustle or side income as some would prefer to call it

WHAT IS A SIDE HUSTLE?

A side hustle is a business you run in your free time that allows you the flexibility to pursue what you’re most interested in. A chance to delve into food, travel, fashion, fitness or whatever you’re passionate about. Something you can make an income from if you want a better retirement. And if you think a “side hustle” is just for the youngsters then think again!

If you want to make more money without having to take another job to do it then a retirement side hustle of some kind might be just what you’re looking for

Of course, everyone’s situation is different, and not every income secret and dare we say it “trick” will work for everyone. Some do require an initial investment or special talents to get started but really there’s something for everyone from just a handful of ideas here.

We cannot guarantee which one will work for you and that’s not the purpose of this article. What we’re aiming to do is is inspire you to do some further research and find a retirement side hustle that will work for you. Of course we have our favourites as we’ve advised clients over the years on some of the most lucrative ways to generate a retirement income

Life is certainly different when you have multiple sources of income coming in.

Soon, the days of waking up worrying about outliving your savings or not having enough for retirement will be a thing of the past.

SOME IDEAS FOR A LUCRATIVE RETIREMENT SIDE HUSTLE

Some of the strategies listed below offer a quick fix for making some money, others will take an investment both of money (to learn a new skill for example) and your time. Either way, select a method that fits within your skill set and if you want to chat it through we offer a free evaluation call with our compliments We have mainly focused on retirement side hustles that leverage the internet but we had to include a couple which don’t by popular demand of family and friends 🙂

Start A Blog

One of the most popular retirement side hustles and ways to earn additional income is by starting your own blog. Earning a significant income from a blog — or any income at all — takes a hefty time investment. If you’re looking to generate a quick income, this probably isn’t the best place to start. If you’re willing to put in the time though, it’s well worth the investment and you can employ people to help you with setting it up so.

If you decide this option then we highly recommend to begin by choosing a topic you are extremely passionate about. This way, you can produce meaningful and valuable content. This is exactly what we are doing on this blog where you’re reading this article – Living The Retirement Lifestyle – where we focus on the issues of retirement and help our readers find ways to “LIVE MORE. EARN MORE. TRAVEL MORE.”

It’s best to focus on content that’s both helpful and engaging to your audience. If you’re writing a travel blog for example, focus on the best sights to see or places to eat and as it grows you will find ways to monetize it. Like our friends Dave and Deb, the founders of The Planet D which they started back in 2007. We definitely wish we had known then what we know now but we hope you see how powerful that blog has become and their travel is financed by the ads you see all over their blog placed by Google Ads.

We have to say that we love blogging and our own blog which centres on online business education has been around since 2010 when we started our journey and whilst we don’t monetize it through Google Ads we do monetize it in other ways!

Monetize Your Skills & Hobbies

Knowledge and skills are highly sought after and it’s an ever expanding industry This is one of our favorite retirement side hustles because it’s based on what you know and can do that someone else might need and doesn’t have the skills to do.

Whether its web development, graphic design, or even marketing, there are plenty of opportunities to promote your skills on platforms like Fiverr and UpWork. Although services start out at $5, some Fiverr sellers are earning six-figure-plus revenues annually. You can sell just about anything on this platform but take time to do research and make sure to be competitive and add value.

If you’re entrepreneurial you can can even take this one stage further. You can become the connector of buyers and sellers. Those platforms which we’ve already mentioned give you access to tens of thousands of freelancers with diverse skill sets and expertise.

You can set up a virtual store of your own and offer services of others for a commission (we’ll talk more on this side hustle in a minute). Being an entrepreneur is all about being resourceful and creating opportunities out of nothing after all.

We had a friend once ask if we knew how to develop an ecommerce website. Knowing nothing about this particular type of website and bearing in mind it was many years ago before popular options like Shopify and Foursquare we gave him the short answer of,  “yes, of course we can.” We then found a developer and helped him get his website built. Since this was a good friend, we didn’t charge him, but we realized we had created a potential opportunity. We now work with a company that provides hundreds of different services that we can direct clients to. We get a referral fee and our clients get a great service so it’s a win win for everyone involved.

We have a friend who is an amazing photographer (especially of sunrise and sunset) and he creates canvas pictures from his photography – he’s retired from “Corporate America” and his hobby and skill combined are a great way to supplement his retirement income plus he gets a lot of pleasure doing it!

We have another friend whose passion is gluten free cookery (especially cakes) and has set up a business demonstrating her recipes

And a couple who had a successful traditional music business who have taken it online now they are retired and show people how to get the voice they always wanted. Apparently even we can sing!

Seriously the world is your oyster these days making money from what you know and what others want to know

Sell Items on Ebay

We haven’t tried this retirement side hustle ourselves but we know people who have and say it’s one of the surest ways you can generate some income quickly. Any used items like furniture, household appliances, collectibles or anything else that you’re just not using or is collecting dust, can be sold online to make some money. Take quality photos and write a good description and follow the instructions on the site. If you decide to get into this in a more professional capacity then we can direct you towards some good training from experts as it’s not our field!

Manage Social Media For Small Business

If you have some social media skills tucked away in your knowledge based (or even prepared to learn them) you can offer them to small businesses who need a social media manager and simply don’t have the time or the expertise to be constantly posting on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Take it upon yourself to contact local businesses (Linkedin is a good place to find clients) and offer up your services for a contracted monthly fee. This is an easy way to make money no matter where you live.

Virtual Tutoring

You can tutor people over SKYPE or ZOOM no matter where you might live. This is great, especially if you’re like us and love to travel and you’re looking to earn more money than the local job market can potentially provide. You can tutor people from wherever in the world you are if you have an internet connection and a webcam (Costa Rica is a favourite of ours and have friends there who do this as well as a friend who lives in Columbia teaching English skills). Language tutoring is very popular especially teaching English as a foreign language.

Create An Online Course

Create an online course with a platform like Udemy or Teachable and leverage some of your skills to create a healthy income as a retirement side hustle. Depending upon how much time you invest in creating your course, you could make a substantial side revenue stream by creating courses that deliver tremendous amounts of value on a huge range of topics – we have some ideas for you here. Best of all you don’t necessarily have to create the content as you can buy ready made content on the topic you want to teach!

Write An eBook

If you’ve got some knowledge that people want access to then the passive income created from writing an ebook and publishing an an accompanied print-on-demand paperback is also a great retirement side hustle. By using platforms like KDP and CreateSpace, both by Amazon, you can create an easily create and sell an ebook that costs nothing to produce, and a paperback that earns you money only when it sells. We’ve published two books this way and contributed to a third all on the topic of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurship in retirement.

Walking Dogs

This wasn’t on our original list as we’re more about retirement side hustles that leverage the internet but your daughter said we had to share it as she and her partner (who have a local dog walking business in the UK) meet a lot of people who are retired and walk dogs for some extra income. Truthfully, almost anyone can walk dogs. If you live in a dog-filled neighborhood you can soon build up a steady stream of clients and your dog-walking service will grow over time.

Sell Products On Etsy

Use Etsy to sell crafts or other home-made items. Etsy is one of the largest resources for selling handmade goods on the internet. We have a friend who makes the most beautiful hand made house signs (he made one for us) so if you’re one of those people who love making things this could be a way to generate a retirement side hustle income

Become An Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing is an extremely alluring industry and if you have the skills it takes to succeed in this arena, you could quite literally make a small fortune. However, many affiliate marketers don’t make much money because they don’t invest in learning the necessary skillset. We found it quite by accident when we started our online business back in 2010 and we haven’t looked back. However we have invested into our training over the years and we do focus on our favourite niche in that area – education and training – and we mainly focus on helping people 50 plus get started and grow their business. We wrote about it here when considering the question “Are You Too Old For Affiliate Marketing?

Whilst it is definitely a great retirement side hustle please be careful not to get drawn into ‘pie-in-the-sky‘ hopes or dreams of making money without putting in much effort. You know there’s no such thing as “get rich quick” but we need to say it because we’ve seen all too often people expect way too much for doing next to nothing.

Become A Network Marketer

We recently interviewed Robert Laura who writes extensively on issues relating to retirement and he said – relating to network marketing “I believe that the entire industry is poised for explosive growth and can be one of the most significant solutions to America’s current retirement savings crisis

Network Marketing, MLM and direct selling programs offer very low barriers into entrepreneurship, often providing training, support, and ample encouragement along the way. As retirees begin to realize they need activities that keep them busy, relevant, in good health, and connected to others, the time, energy and cost to participate in these kinds of companies make them very appealing.

Just as we have an interest in affiliate marketing, we also firmly believe in the network marketing principles and it being a great way to generate a passive income to supplement your retirement savings. In line with our desire to travel and promote a retirement lifestyle it’s natural that our interest lies in what we’re passionate about – you can check it out here

Get A Part Time Job

Okay, so maybe not the most popular retirement side hustle but if you need some cash and you’re just not comfortable making money online you could get a part-time job. You can kiss your social life goodbye, but it’s certainly a more guaranteed additional stream of income.

As far as the current retirement saving crisis is concerned, more and more people are coming to terms with the fact that they probably aren’t going to be able to save enough money to just sit around and slowly deplete their nest egg from age 62 to 100. With the average 50 year-old estimated to have less than $50,000 in retirement savings, there is an obvious need to find alternative ways to either save more or generate supplemental income starting now, and continuing throughout retirement” Robert Laura

Last word…

No matter what your current financial situation is, it’s always important to seek new income opportunities especially those that can make you money while you sleep!

We hope we’ve given you some ideas on retirement side hustles and gone some way towards answering the question “Can A Side Hustle Rescue Your Retirement

How To Achieve A Happy Retirement https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/how-to-achieve-a-happy-retirement/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/how-to-achieve-a-happy-retirement/#respond Fri, 18 Sep 2020 13:55:51 +0000 http://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=1311 Who doesn’t want a happy retirement? After all, they don’t call them the Golden Years for nothing!

Those were the words of Wes Moss speaking on Money Matters and in this video he shares his 7 tips on how to achieve a happy retirement.

Let’s listen to what he has to say…

So, are you setting yourself up for true happiness in retirement? Let’s assume you’re planning the money side of things OK, and that’s important… but, there’s also the personal piece of the retirement equation that’s just as important as the money part

Let’s take a look and summarise the 7 ways to achieve happiness in retirement according to this expert

  1. Maintain your social network
  2. Don’t let fear or uncertainty rule your life
  3. Know That You Are Resilient
  4. What’s on Your Schedule?
  5. Speaking of Core Pursuits
  6. Mastering Your Cash Flow
  7. Now Sit Back and Relax

Maintain Your Social Network

Make sure you keep contact with your friends and family during retirement. Do what makes you feel good and connects you with other people, whether it’s supporting causes, volunteering, lunching or vacationing with friends, or spending some quality time with your kids and grandchildren

Don’t Let Fear of Uncertainty Rule Your Life

We all know the famous saying “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” and how true that is. We can’t all be sure of what lies around the corner or life throws your way financially or even in health. The truth is no one knows what the future holds. Enjoy what’s good in your life while you have it.

There will always be answers if you look for them just as we had to.

Know That You Are Resilient

We like to think of this as making lemonade from lemons. If you stay positive and optimistic you can get through troubled times. We admit it’s not always easy but if you can be positive in dealing with adversity you are half way there

What’s on Your Schedule?

Working full-time lends itself to a set schedule – the good old 9-5 as we so often see it referred to! Life in work is very organised and we know our routines. In retirement, things are not so structured – unless you create the structure. It’s important to make your own routine, and fill it up doing things you love. So our routine now involves a late start to the day with breakfast in bed then we go to our “home office” and get to work doing we love – writing blogs like this and helping people with starting and growing their online business. We both love reading and walking so that is something we fit into our schedule.

Having Some Core Pursuits

It’s been revealed that the happiest retirees engage regularly in the hobbies and activities they love. There are what Wes Moss refers to as “core pursuits”. Sadly we know people who have very few core pursuits as their time was so taken up with work for most of their life they forgot to enjoy life. Our core pursuits are travel, reading, walking, visiting National Trust properties We don’t have a great deal of time these days as we’re busy with our post retirement business but we would absolutely agree that filling up your time with the things you love to do sets you up for a truly happy retirement.

MONEY : Mastering Your Cash Flow

These tips are not in any particular order but there’s one thing we know from the number of people we talk to that having some retirement budget in place is essential. If you have calculated that your retirement savings, social security, annuity pension, 401K or whatever it is in your country of residence is not going to provide you the retirement lifestyle you envisaged you may need to add some other income streams. This may be in the form or some part time work or even taking up some kind of business just as we did. In fact there are thousands of people just like us around the world doing just that. We leverage our knowledge and skills and the world of the internet and social media and top up our income.

Sit Back and Relax

We really like this one and isn’t it what we envisage life to be. Sipping cocktails on a beach reading a good book…

Nice idea but we know we would quickly get bored so we do need to be doing things alongside the treats, the vacations etc. Some people absolutely love the idea of all the free time that comes with being retired. Others hate not having a goal, something to achieve. No right or wrong. Just do what makes you happy. After all it’s your retirement and you deserve it. Find your bliss and follow it as Wes Moss says

That concludes today’s article and hope it gave you some food for thought

The Secrets To A Successful Retirement https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/the-secrets-to-a-successful-retirement/ https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/the-secrets-to-a-successful-retirement/#respond Fri, 18 Sep 2020 11:30:06 +0000 http://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=1303 In this video Rick Bloom joins JoAnne Purtan to look at the secrets to a successful retirement

Now whilst this video “The Secrets To A Successful Retirement” relates to the secrets to a successful retirement as it pertains to someone who lives and works in the USA the principles behind a successful retirement remain universal.

We may not like to acknowledge it (we certainly didn’t and we’re accountants so you would think we would know better wouldn’t you) but the sooner you start saving towards your retirement the better it will be.

We did make provisions by investing our hard earned savings into property and it was considered a pretty safe option at the time. Sadly no one could have predicted the financial melt down of 2008 and our retirement nest egg was pretty much wiped out and what was left became a millstone round our necks. You can read our story here if you are a new reader to our blog.

We cannot emphasise how important it is to begin saving early and we’ve encouraged our children to invest into their retirement to give them a better life when that time comes and we’ve long departed this earth.

The power of compounding which you will hear about may not sound sexy but let us assure you that it works

If you took a single penny and doubled it everyday, by day 30, you would have $5,368,709.12. However, it’s important to note that it’s all about the power of doubling

That’s quite a sobering thought isn’t it!

If like us you find yourself in the predicament of not having sufficient financial resources to be living the retirement lifestyle you imagined then try thinking outside the box as we did

These days there are so many ways you can leverage your skills and knowledge and earn an income

We discuss some of these in our book which you can get with our compliments here

Thanks for reading The Secrets To A Successful Retirement and do let us have your thoughts on the video or even if you have found the perfect retirement lifestyle 🙂

We can celebrate with you and maybe one day meet on an adventure some place in the world and exchange notes.

And if a successful retirement for you is about amazing experiences and vacations around the world we invite you to check out our travel and lifestyle club – an opportunity to MAKE MONEY & LIVE YOUR TRUE LIFE ADVENTURE!
