We were both taking part in a virtual challenge with the iconic Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi with a focus on using our skills, talents and passions into a business

Hui Hui had lost her retail business overnight as her business relied on importing from China and all borders were closed and she was unable to fulfil orders

It was a pretty stressful and challenging time but as we know from personal experience sometimes it’s those challenges and obstacles that become a springboard to something new and exciting

Tune in and listen to her story as she takes you through what happened next

It’s truly inspiring and proof that with the right mindset, belief and mentorship anything is possible

https://vimeo.com/951868599?share=copy

We hope that you picked up from her story that when she began her online business she had zero influence and zero audience but what she did have in bucket loads was courage and using a skill she had mastered from the past in illustration

After every training she put together what she learned into picture form and shared it with people for free never realising that as she did so she was creating an audience…

An audience that has since helped propel her into an amazing business and life

We feel very honoured to have met her during the covid years and she gave us inspiration and the motivation to carry on when things looked bleak for us…

And likewise inspired by the BIG MAN himslef

3 Things Tony Robbins Said That Changed Her Life

If you’ve ever been in a position where you were challenged and thought you couldn’t do something or that someone left you feeling you were not good enough or wouldn’t be able to do something let us share what happened to Hui Hui (remember she told us her name made Tony Robbins happy 😀) how the words of Tony Robbins gave her strength and courage to keep going even though she had never met him until this year. We can totally resonate with that and we were lucky enough to meet him many years ago

She say “he switches my mindset every time I’ve had a huge setback in business⚡️🥳.”

A 6-figure coach told her she wouldn’t make it and was in a state of depression, Tony’s voice ring in her ears, “I can’t therefore I must!”

When she was in a daze 🥺😵‍💫 the second day after she started her coaching business and got a call that her Dad was very sick and hospitalised but she remembered Tony’s words, “Things are happening FOR you, not to you.”

It gave her the courage and strength 💪 to continue…

And made her think what must she do so that it’s happening for me? That incident became her biggest motivation to succeed 🏆 as a coach. Sprinting from zero to 2MM in 2 years.

She then I had a meltdown 😢 in her 3rd month stumbling over speaking coherently in English even after lots of practice. She recalled Tony’ voice saying, “Believe it will be worth it in the end.”

At that time, she hadn’t even met Tony in person and he already had had a huge influence on her

We truly hope that hearing her story and the challenges she overcame from losing everything she and her partner had worked for to where she is today actually meeting Tony Robbins and sharing her story with him…

That you too will be motivated to put aside all those little voices in your head that Chris calls “fruit salad

And make the leap into the unknown and make a life and an income for yourself that you truly deserve

You can read the rest of her story as it unfolds on her social media below and we hope we will meet you in this year’s free challenge called “The Game Has Changed

We’ll be there alongside Hui Hui and thousands of others ready to make a change in their life

A bit of backstory

We and Jo started in 2010 post the recession of 2008 when the internet was in it’s infancy with no fancy tools like we have today yet we faced the fear and did it. We neither of us knew if it would work but somehow we just knew it would and we had to try.

For Jo it all began one day when feeling stuck and miserable they agreed to house sit for a friend in Cyprus who was involved in something called “internet marketing”

With no income and not a lot of savings, they knew they had to start earning fast and this is her story

Fast forward to 2013, Jo has been location independent running a 6 figure online businesses for well over a decade now just as we have… her husband too! Their daughter was 4 when they packed up everything and moved to Cyprus and finally arrived in Phuket in Thailand (they’ve lived and travelled to 40 countries!) where they settled so she could get through her higher education years but today they’re ready to get the backpacks out again

We talked about reaching 50 – that all important milestone in our lives (we started our online business in our mid 50’s) and about “unretirement” – that time when you want to get the absolute best out of the second half of life.

How it’s very possible to grow a location independent lifestyle business doing something you love that gives you the freedom to work and live anywhere in the world.

And it needn’t be complicated…

Nor does everyone want to be a multi-millionaire even…

They just want to be comfortable and not have to worry about money and be able to do the things they dreamed of doing

As Jo says, most people can quite easily start a side hustle today and generate some money selling stuff they don’t want for example

It’s one of the things Gary Vaynerchuk talks about in his videos too

It’s a start and then the thought of other ways of making money kicks in

Building a lifestyle business isn’t just about breaking financial barriers, it’s about designing a life that literally makes you leap out of bed each morning.

And, as Gen X or Baby Boomers, our age isn’t a barrier; it’s a goldmine of wisdom and experience that gives our lifestyle businesses their unique edge

Talking “unretirement”…

And just for fun, Jo shares the famous “unretirement” video of Tom Brady and his NFL friends going back on the pitch – it’s very funny 🤣🤣🤣 but it does make the point.

We’ve got years left in us so let’s make the most of it!

She says that now it’s her mission to share her experiences and help others build their own lifestyle business that gives them the freedom to live and work from anywhere in the world whether that be your kitchen table or a beach in Fiji

She believes (just as we do) that a lifestyle business is your chance to become a master of your own destiny and to generate an income that funds your ideal lifestyle whatever that is to you

For anyone wanting to spend the rest of their life and not working in the traditional way (aka for someone else) she’s just launched a brand new course The Solopreneur Success Formula

We’ve been through it and know you will enjoy her relaxed style of training and it will get you on the road to creating that lifestyle business you’ve been listening to us both share

If there’s one thing we’ve both learnt over the years if you want to do something learn from someone who has already done what you want to do

We hope that you will be inspired to face the fear and get out of your comfort zone and have a great second half of life

In Jo’s words “be willing to be a bad artist to begin” (we all are)

You will definitely want to listen to his story and hear some of the challenges he faced on the journey including having to forfeit his medical practice in favour of his belief in natural solutions.

How we should all be free to make better choices in life that we believe in.

https://vimeo.com/855286083

His career began as a paramedic and later became an anaethetist but after burnout and suffering depression took the decision to re-qualify as a medical doctor proof having realised that money isn’t everything! For a period of time life became much better for him and his wife and he was happy with his lifestyle but yet there was a desire to do and be more…

Then one day a patient changed everything for him and his wife.

He had been unable to help her with traditional medicine then one day she turned up at his practice and shared with him how she had treated herself holistically and she wanted to share with him her story.

That story changed his life and his career

He tried the products for himself and many of the afflictions he had went away and he just knew he had to share this with those who needed to find solutions

He knew nothing about the world of network marketing that his patient had introduced him to just loved that these products worked and wanted to tell everyone about them

What happened next is all too familiar in today’s world unfortunately but there is a happy ending

Lutz and his wife now have the means to help people who traditional medicine has not helped and the results as we know too well ourselves are becoming more accepted

They have created a business they love and they continue to serve people who have health challenges but in a different way

As Lutz says, change is never easy but it’s definitely possible if you are open to doing things differently

We have many years ahead of us and be healthy enough to enjoy those years

Lutz’s tips to starting a side hustle or trying something new :

  1. Find someone you know, like and trust and who have done what you want to do and take advice from them
  2. Make sure that what you do will solve a problem for someone
  3. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back
  4. Get coaching
  5. Face the fear and work on your mindset and personal development
  6. Give it a try because if you don’t you will never know

Sometimes there are opportunities you don’t even know about – just be open to what is there for you

Thank you for joining us and listening to our chat with Lutz Marten and hope his story inspires you to think about your own life and what may lie ahead for you

Could You Turn Your Passion, Skill Or Hobby Into An Online Income Stream? https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/could-you-turn-your-passion-skill-or-hobby-into-an-online-income-stream/ Wed, 09 Aug 2023 18:30:51 +0000 https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/?p=2643 https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/could-you-turn-your-passion-skill-or-hobby-into-an-online-income-stream/#respond https://livingtheretirementlifestyle.com/could-you-turn-your-passion-skill-or-hobby-into-an-online-income-stream/feed/ 0 In today's Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we catch up with Adil Amarsi who has created himself a business through his love of copywriting learned from an early age writing stories for his Dad's business and has gone on to write copy amassing over a billion dollars in revenue for his clients (and he's only 33!) We first met him after attending an internet marketing event some 10 years ago and listened to him share his passion for copywriting over cocktails in the bar (some of the best moments and friendships are meeting people at events over coffee or in the bar 😂). We didn't really know what that was back then! Social media allows us to keep in touch and after chatting recently about a course he's just created we wanted to introduce him to you and for you to hear how you can turn a skill, knowledge (or hobby) that you are insanely passionate about into a business that generates you a full or part time income. Knowledge is in huge demand as people want to know how to do things and you could be harbouring the secret (you'll hear him share an example of a plumber friend)! Join us for the conversation and hear his story and make sure to stay to the end as he has a fabulous tip for you for starting your very first or next income stream... https://vimeo.com/852389034?share=copy There were so many golden nuggets inside this interview and hope you took notes - we've added captions so you can grab those that might help you in considering your next steps or which you can use as you think about starting or pursue your online career. Getting a mentor or finding someone who has done what you want to do is a key takeaway and one we absolutely endorse - without finding a mentor we would not be doing what we are today! The internet is not just for young things as we've proved beyond a doubt (and why we created this podcast and blog) and when you consider the skills, talents and experience those reaching their fifties and beyond hold there's a whole new world of entrepreneurship opening up for them. Think about some of the most successful businesses around today. Chances are, those that came to mind have – or are founded on – strong, simple and easy to understand concepts as Adil mentions referring to Leonardo da Vinci "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Skipping to the end of the interview we loved Adil's idea of searching Faceless You Tube Channels and found you a blog so you can check that out for yourself. We'll definitely be following up on the travel idea and it's got us thinking of other industries too... Greg has a fascinating background as you'll hear during our chat but it really does put him in a position to share what he knows about the industry and how retirees can fight back (and not just in America). Told though metaphors and recognizable events Greg shares the story inside his book of how the financial industry created a trillion-dollar empire by withholding information while over-charging and under-servicing retirees regarding the real risks of retirement. It was a very entertaining chat and we think you will see from the fact that despite being the CEO of 3 very successful companies he prefers a more relaxed look and can see why his clients would like him. We especially loved his idea that all retirees should have money set aside for fun, travel, hobbies or anything that they enjoy. https://vimeo.com/814682036 With staggering numbers of Americans living far longer than ever before (and no different to any other developed nation) our retirement savings need to go a lot further and take into account long term health care as well as investments and life savings. As we said above, what we liked best was when he said he encourages his clients to set aside money for their fun time as everyone in their retirement needs to enjoy this time of their life and not just be saving for the future. Greg has definitely stirred up a hornets nest but in a good way and highlighted the reason that the advice that your financial advisor might have given you to get to the top of "Retirement Mountain" probably won’t help get you down. That is what most retirees miss – until it’s too late... but no more! Greg has a fascinating background as you’ll hear during our chat but it really does put him in a position to share what he knows about the industry and how retirees can fight back (and not just in America).

Told though metaphors and recognizable events Greg shares the story inside his book of how the financial industry created a trillion-dollar empire by withholding information while over-charging and under-servicing retirees regarding the real risks of retirement.

His family was the thing that provided him with his REASON WHY to make the change. A change that has led him to a better life and creating a way to help others who want a better life too just as we have done. Originally from Australia and now living and working in the UK, we first met her over a decade ago when she entered the world of online entrepreneurship. We knew she had that spark in her and she's proved us right reaching that milestone birthday (she just turned 50) and running a very successful thriving coaching business But we'll let Kylie share her story and hope you will be inspired to move out of your comfort zone and know that there is more to life than sticking with what you've always done and were good at for fear of what lies beyond! https://vimeo.com/748021151 We so loved that moment where Kylie says her boss came into the office bragging about his travel card and she realised he was still coming into the office in his retirement... one of those pivitol moments that made her know for certain it was her time to do something about building her own business to give her the flexibility to travel and start living a life not centred around work! We remembered her coming to an event we had organised showing people how they could start an online business and was in the front row taking notes and smiling like the proverbial cheshire cat. Kylie shares how she was experimenting with different ways to make money online (which is what most people do to be honest) , found what didn't work and how not everyone can be trusted but she didn't ever give up on her dreams and goals She knew that honing her skills would help her reach them and it would take a little time to "find her thing" as she describes it She knew that overnight success and 'getting rich quick' was a fallacy and an investment into personal development was extremely important Which all led to her thinking about the 'missing link' as she refers to it. She was an avid consumer of training but wasn't earning from all that knowledge! How could she change that and provide a service which would bridge the gap for people creating all this training, writing books, producing courses and bring the those all important clients? And a business was born - one that began by helping small businesses get a better presence online and collect those all important leads and learn how to communicate and nurture those those leads until some became their customers or clients. Her next realisation was that there were a lot of successful women making incredible amounts of money using the internet and conversely many were living paycheck to paycheck and had little or no plan for their retirement. Another seed was sown! She shared with us how on a recent economic forum she learnt that something like 60% of the wealth in the UK is going to be owned by women by 2025. It's a massive market and spotting an opportunity that's where her focus is today, championing women entrepreneurs. Plus finding ways to grow faster without so much effort and time and harnessing other ways to generate legacy wealth, all of which she can include inside her coaching business. This led to the birth of Iconic Wealth For Women and the focus of her business today. With over 7 years solid business experience, followed by 3 years running an online coaching business.  She's uniquely positioned with REAL business experience to help her clients leverage their knowledge, develop additional income streams and help them on a journey towards more freedom and more income. Her Advice Don't stay set in your ways as you get older. The internet is here to stay and there's so many things you could do with a little help and guidance. If you haven't made plans for your retirement it's not too late - get some advice and get started now - every little helps! We remembered her coming to an event we had organised showing people how they could start an online business and was in the front row taking notes and smiling like the proverbial cheshire cat.

Kylie shares how she was experimenting with different ways to make money online (which is what most people do to be honest) , found what didn’t work and how not everyone can be trusted but she didn’t ever give up on her dreams and goals

She knew that honing her skills would help her reach them and it would take a little time to “find her thing” as she describes it

She knew that overnight success and ‘getting rich quick’ was a fallacy and an investment into personal development was extremely important

Which all led to her thinking about the ‘missing link‘ as she refers to it. She was an avid consumer of training but wasn’t earning from all that knowledge! How could she change that and provide a service which would bridge the gap for people creating all this training, writing books, producing courses and bring the those all important clients?

Her next realisation was that there were a lot of successful women making incredible amounts of money using the internet and conversely many were living paycheck to paycheck and had little or no plan for their retirement.

Another seed was sown!

She shared with us how on a recent economic forum she learnt that something like 60% of the wealth in the UK is going to be owned by women by 2025. It’s a massive market and spotting an opportunity that’s where her focus is today, championing women entrepreneurs. Her Advice

Don’t stay set in your ways as you get older. The internet is here to stay and there’s so many things you could do with a little help and guidance. If you haven’t made plans for your retirement it’s not too late – get some advice and get started now – every little helps!

We had to ask Neil whether Marcus was actually him but he assures us the character was totally fictional albeit he draws on his experience of what he describes as the egocentric world of professional service. Whilst full of humour, the story ultimately delivers a serious message about remaining true to our personal values and changing lives for the better. We began reading Maybe It's About Time on a transatlantic flight to Salt Lake City just recently. But he had the fortitude along with his co-directors to pivot into the virtual world that we all came to be a part of during 2020/21 and their innovative approach was a win win coming up with products that could help keep teams engaged whilst people were locked down at home utilising zoom. So we came up with escape games and murder mysteries and quizzes, and all sorts of different things that people could do with their teams online. Truth is for a couple of months things were pretty tough but long story short is we came through COVID and had the best two years in business we've ever had and in 2020/21 delivered just over three and a half thousand events all around the world and had the most successful two years in business in terms of revenue and profit as well. We can all learn a great deal from that not least of which is turning what could be abject failure into your fortune and hearing of a success story coming out of COVID is very encouraging! Moving on we asked Peter about side hustles to which he admits having had one or two but the most memorable was the chocolate business from which the title of this podcast originated So how did it all begin? Peter tells us that his wife and daughters are "chocoholics" and so he came up with an idea to help his children "earn" their "pocket" money (it was about giving the girls a hand up rather than a handout he says) by getting them involved in a side hustle he had found selling "wrapped" chocolate bars - for parties, weddings, birthdays, events and it just took off from there. As all things do with family enthusiasm soon dropped off but having created a saleable business, Peter was able to sell it on. That little adventure led to winning an award and for the best new business from the chamber of commerce. Who wouldn't like to create a success story from a little "opportunity" like that and add a philanthropic element too! A side hustle that didn't cost a lot of money, requiring only some creative thinking and making it work ! Culminating in a a perfect lifestyle business that he was able to sell on after the girls left the nest for a life of their own. We know from our own experience that self belief and 'will it work for me' are the conversations that go on inside the heads of people looking at this entrepreneurship thing so we asked Bob how he approaches this. His answer was quite interesting but actually really sensible. "We become their role models" he said. "Almost but not quite like their parents LOL 🤣 These people are watching you and they need to see that you are doing what they want to do. In this edition of Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we chat with Bob Clarke about why it’s important to have choices when you get older, why age 50 was pivotal for him and his wife Rosemary and what he discovered in his foray into the online world

Its a fabulous story and we know you’ll have lots of takeaways from it so listen in and hear what he has to say

https://vimeo.com/747248827

Like so many of us Bob loved his job working as a health care professional running infertility laboratories up and down the East Coast of the USA but retirement was on the horizon and like so many of us he didn’t want to be dependent on the government or to potentially outlive his money. He wanted to be in control and have choices when he got older

And it’s at that point you start looking (usually while you are still working at your job) and then the shiny objects pop up and because you don’t know any better at this point (been there and done that!) one thing leads to another and you find yourself one of the ‘dabblers’ making a little bit of money but not enough to write home about.

But then something happens…

There’s a a ‘trigger point’

For Bob and his wife Rosemary it was a change in Bob’s job combined with an unexpected heart problem and a lot of stress… and that led to the decision that this online thing could be the answer but that it would require an investment into learning how it all worked and then being able to focus on it part time until they (well Rosemary actually) could see it working for them

The key word as you will hear Bob say was FOCUS. When you sit down to work on your business you can’t go jumping around all over the place because suddenly that 6o minutes you had planned to use is gone in an instant!

So you decide you’ll retire and then you’ll have the time to do this “thing” and that’s when the realisation kicks in that you have to make it work and that requires discipline and the activities you are involved in have to be results or income producing activities. When you focus on that and have a good mentor to help and guide you then you can start to achieve your goals

Now you are “officially retired” we asked what are you doing now?

Bob told us he was working now because he wanted to and he was having fun doing it but that the danger was loving it so much you lose track of time and end up compromising your lifestyle and that’s not how it should be so you have to set boundaries. Time in the office for work. Time in the home for relationships, family and fun.

I want to be that person just like you and Susan where I can say I’ve been in the trenches and because of that can help fill the gaps for others because of what I know that they won’t have to spend endless hours and days trying to find out.

How do you encourage entrepreneurship in retirement?

We know from our own experience that self belief and ‘will it work for me‘ are the conversations that go on inside the heads of people looking at this entrepreneurship thing so we asked Bob how he approaches this. His answer was quite interesting but actually really sensible. “We become their role models” he said. “Almost but not quite like their parents LOL 🤣 These people are watching you and they need to see that you are doing what they want to do. You’ve got to share with them the results of what you’re doing aka the lifestyle but also that it takes work to achieve those results.

What books would you recommend reading for the first time entrepreneur?

We asked Bob to share his favourites and like us he went straight for the classics we all know and love – Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen, The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. We definitely agree on these and added to it The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

Last words of wisdom

We couldn’t end our chat without asking Bob for his final words of wisdom. We loved that he said “keep it simple… There are many moving parts of a business – things you must do every day like generate leads, make sales, grow your audience, build your list… those are the important things that will move your business forward.” Added to that because it’s super important is setting yourself a goal or goals.

Here’s an example Bob uses. If you are in network marketing for example, and your goal is to build that business then the income producing activities you need to focus on are prospecting and showing your company’s presentation to as many people as you can and following up and supporting your team and customers. Do these things first before anything else and you can say you’ve had a successful day. And when you get better it takes less time than in the beginning!

Last but not least don’t work just to work – work with intention and make sure it’s doing something that gives you joy. Something that turns you on or just don’t do it because it won’t work out well.

Gosh there was a lot of wisdom for you to digest during our chat with Bob and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

We read on a recent post of his on Facebook which really sums it up

So grateful for the life we now have.

It wasn’t always like this.

There were many years of living paycheck to paycheck and having more month at the end of our money.

There were lost weekends at work and putting off vacations.

We sacrificed and delayed gratification.

There’s no luck involved in the life we now live.

We deserve it

As we are friends we were drawn to what he had written which we'll share below and hatched a plan to invite him to appear on our show and share what that meant and what inspired him to not just write it but to make a plan to fulfil his statement Tune in to find out what happens when everything you dream about starts coming true https://vimeo.com/738911339 Here's that post that inspired us to get Trevor to do this interview and we believe will inspire you to go ahead and create your dream life whatever that is for you Let's unpack this I'm creating my dream life.It started with this book... That book was "Unlikely Destinations : The Lonely Planet Story" The autobiography of a young couple who travelled all over the world starting from the UK and then through uncharted territory of Afghanistan, S E Asia and finally arriving in Australia. During that time they started making little travel guide books (way before the internet was really a "thing" as it is today) and The Lonely Planet (their little side gig 😂) was born Trevor read it back in 2007 We're reading it at the moment in 2022 but we already knew about them from their amazing website that has been one of the inspirations for us to travel and record our memories... Reminding us like Trevor that this is the life we want to live This is the retirement we want to have For Trevor he says... I read Unlikely Destinations: The Lonely Planet Story back in 2007. It's the autobiography of the couple that started those little travel guide books. You know...before the internet was really a "thing". I remember reading it back then and thinking... THAT THAT is the life I want to live. They travelled from the UK to Afghanistan to S.E. Asia to Australia. They documented their journey. The route they took. The food they ate. The people they met. And, when they had a family, they brought their kids on their adventures. At the time (in 2007) I had NO IDEA how I would make that a reality. I had only travelled to Ireland (for 1 week) and Mexico on a few all-inclusive vacations. But, I said to myself then... You need to CREATE a life where you can live anywhere. And, still make $$$$. It started with an INTENTION But, when your VISION is clear. You CONSCIOUSLY CREATE your reality. One. Step. At. A. Time. And, it is another piece to the puzzle that will help me manifest my dreams into reality. While the path is walked one step at a time. The destination is no longer "unlikely" Contacting Trevor Facebook Linkedin Website & Podcast Thank you for joining us for this fabulous chat and hope that you are inspired to choose a destination to suit you wherever that may be and whenever that may be... She's a woman of many talents but she's very well known in the home business arena and a huge proponent of network marketing having started out in 1999 with a network marketing company trying to find a way to be home with her two daughters.  Like many, she did everything she was told to do and when she ran out of warm market she bravely took to the internet to figure out how to meet more people to introduce her business to. That’s where she discovered what we know today as Attraction Marketing and something we use every day in our business... In fact you're listening to, watching or reading this because of that! Time to tune in and listen to her story and make sure to write down those golden nuggets 😀 https://vimeo.com/738336032 How Did You Get Into Network Marketing? A familiar story we're sure but like many of us Diane shares how she was invited by a friend to what turned out to be an opportunity meeting back in 1999 as a mother of two small children and found a way to be at home with them having left her job as an educator at a college and naively had found herself in debt! Having seen the opportunity she went on to build her first home business. She built it traditionally to begin as we're all taught but then found the internet and everything changed and her business grew exponentially via social media in particular. After that she became recognised as an expert in her field and she hasn't looked back Becoming skilled in the field of home business, social media marketing and attraction marketing the world became her stage and is now sought after for events where she is able to fulfil her passion for teaching and training just as we do as well as consultancy and education. And all that from one decision made 23 years ago! Our friend Lisa Grossman sums Diane up very well "To say that I am Diane Hochman's biggest fan would be an understatement. She is a teacher of truths, a master of mentorship who uses her expertise to help others find their voice and articulate their passions in order to create success in their lives... Nobody does it better" How Important Is It To Look At Alternative Income Streams? We're living in challenging times so we asked Diane to give her thoughts on alternative income streams for someone in or approaching their retirement years. She recalls the crash of the economy in 2007/2008 (coincidentally what bought us to the online world) and believes what we are about to experience now (it's 2022 as we write this) will be much more ominous. The truth is that winter will come economically but that's how the seasons of life roll. Your prepare in the summer and autumn for the winter. Those who see what's coming can take advantage of that now and prepare just like the squirrels do. Just like Diane did and just like we did. COVID gave us a whole new way to build a business leveraging the internet and social media and those who are smart enough to recognise that have stayed the course and grown their businesses. On The Topic Of Retirement Diane touched on a very important phrase we hear a lot "it's not fair" - people have worked hard all their lives, it's not fair the economy is like it is right now, my savings plan (401K in the USA) is down. Why is this happening when I'm 60? Why is this happening when I become eligible to become a 'pensioner', 'retired'? And the media is stirring the pot as they do. Truth is 'it's not fair' but what if you could do something now that would cause you to have more money than you ever would have with the original pension or social security because bad time are often the start of something wonderful? What's Next? Twenty three years later, the kids have flown the nest and she's single once more and focused once more in build... This was all fascinating to hear as we had read and heard about shamans and ayahuasca ceremonies but never met anyone who could share their personal experience and provide a better understanding of one of those ancient arts now practiced in our modern world Moving on... We chatted about retirement and what science is showing us, about having an ikigai and about the inhabitants of Okinawa where men and women live on average seven years longer than Americans and have the longest disability-free life expectancy on earth. Apparently Okinawa is known as "the land of the immortals" and more people over a hundred years old live there than anywhere else. They don't have a word for retirement but instead have the word ikigai which roughly means "the reason you wake up in the morning" or as Andrea translates it "having a life purpose" We reckon that Andrea has found her ikigai 😀 From her home in France where she runs small retreats she now shows people how to recover from burnout, break-downs & heart break and is truly living her best life helping others live theirs through her proven techniques of mindfulness meditation, neuroscience & positive psychology With all the stress in the world right now we would say she's definitely found her life purpose Final Words Live your purpose - you are a gift to the world - share your presence with passion! David is far from being your typical "wealth management" advisor which you will definitely discover during our chat because not only is he a financial expert, he's also an extreme sports enthusiast and parallels his love for mountain climbing with an individual's financial journey. Climbing up the mountain is what we do while accumulating wealth during our working years (hopefully) and descending the mountain is what we do during our spending/retirement years. But the descent isn't necessarily the 'easy' part since most climbing accidents actually occur during the descent, and that is also often true, financially speaking, for retirees, too" Tune in and lets hear what he has to say as we discuss his adventures including hitchhiking from Nairobi to Cape Town, Africa and climbing the infamous peaks of the Nepalese Himalayas... and taking part in the historic tearing down the Berlin Wall Let's begin... https://vimeo.com/709471307 The tearing down of the Berlin Wall of course repeated itself metaphorically speaking 20 years later when the financial worlds came tumbling down in 2008 and had a detrimental effect on all of us especially those of us in or approaching their later life retirement years. The truth is as David says, you have to plan for the second half of the journey because there are no shortcuts to any place worth going! You have to keep climbing. Photo Credit Sebastian Pena Lambarri Unsplash In Chapter 1 he begins with "Imagine that you're at Mt Everest Base Camp and you've come across a group of mountaineers about to start their expedition to the summit. What's your ultimate goal?" you ask them... How would they answer? If you're like most people you probably assume that their ultimate goal is getting to the top And you'll find out if you continue reading this chapter that you would be wrong because it's the second half of the journey you have to plan for... the descent! Love that he's on a quest to visit at least 100 countries in his lifetime. Like us, seeing the world through other cultures’ eyes is an integral part of helping us and him keep all things in perspective as we navigate . We all know that there are endless books on how to accumulate wealth and how to get out of debt. However, few resources teach what to do once you have reached the top, even though you are faced with unique and potentially devastating risks as you begin the second half of your financial journey. This book was written to fill that gap. Through an unexpected melding of travel and even family stories coupled with financial survival tips, Failure Is Not an Option will lay out the eight fundamental risks every retiree faces and help you create more certainty in the uncertainty of retirement. In the process, it will help you achieve far greater financial peace of mind, since just like climbing mountain those who recognize and address these risks are most likely to safely and successfully complete their journey. Don Yaeger sums up the the book with his quote "A 'Road Less Traveled' meets 'Think & Grow Rich'." Last words... Andrew is the author of "The Way Out" - 7 Steps To Financial Freedom Through Network Marketing. We've read a lot of books on the topic of entrepreneurship and in particular on network marketing but his approach to the topic is down to earth, honest and no nonsense and why he believes it's a great model for someone wanting to generate a passive income in or for their retirement. Time to sit back and listen to what he has to say https://vimeo.com/718656009 Andrew's story and his success comes from his approach to an industry that is often times much maligned because people think it's so easy they don't take time to realise that like any other, a network marketing business is a business. Putting that aside, we know from experience that the one thing that retirees and pre-retirees need is passive income It's something we learnt about long before we joined the industry We call it The Three Legged Stool. Andrew calls it The Big Lake In case like us you like to read about things here's what Andrew says (and with kind permission we quote from his book) It's a fascinating way to understand the importance of multiple streams of income... Something we should all have  The Big Lake The vast majority of people (and you may be one of them) have only one stream feeding the lake and many streams sucking it dry (life costs, home loads, car payments, debt, rent, food, insurance, credit card payments, holidays etc) Human nature is to live in the now matching the water coming in with streams coming out.  You get a pay rise - find another way to spend it! If you want more water in the lake there are really only two options Find a bigger stream to feed the lake or reduce the number of creeks and streams coming out of the lake Work hard or spend less Simple maths No one wants to work more their whole life We didn't want to Which is why we fixed things by introducing a second stream to the top of the lake back in the days and continue to do so right up to today To begin the first stream can be your job (just as it was ours) and your second stream can be an online business  Now you have two streams feeding the lake instead of one  Two is always better than one The more streams of income coming in, the bigger the safety net if there's a drought upstream. If you were to lose your job, you have a secondary income stream that can continue to feed the lake in the meantime. This is the key to financial security And in your retirement years this is super important Who knows how long we will live to and we sure as heck don't want the money to run out before we do! You can't have pure health when you're lying in bed stressing about paying the bills and that's an unfortunate reality of society today and it's hitting people in retirement more than anyone Next we asked Andrew "Is Network Marketing A Great Model For Generating A Passive Income?" Andrew shares how you can start a network marketing business whatever age you are and it's unbeatable in this world. If you want to make the commitment, if you stay in the game, and you do the work, you can then use that to create more streams of income. You can create passive income. You can create your own economy. And that's incredible. The network marketing model has evolved to allow people to create cash flow into their life almost immediately and that's phenomenal Let's Talk About Your Book - The Way Out "Why did you write it and who is it for?" Andrew shares how he was at one of his first major events seeing people having achieved success and said to his wife "how can anyone mess this up". Unfortunately Andrew has seen and we have seen that many people do mess it up. They don't treat it as a business and/or they don't fully understand what it means to run a business and that's such a great shame. He decided to do something he’d never quite imagined at his time of life and moved in to take care of his 95-year-old Mum who had dementia and shares with us the moving story of their ten-year caregiving journey which he documented in his book Winter Stars. https://vimeo.com/709468777 By the end of this decade, 74 million Americans will be over the age of 65, including every member of the Baby Boom generation and as a nation they are not alone. The pandemic prompted more Americans just as it has us Brits to consider caring for their parents at home, but as Iverson learned, the gritty, life-changing reality caregiving delivers requires more than good intentions. He didn’t know that his mom’s dementia would pose more challenges than his Parkinson’s. He didn’t know he’d be capable of getting so angry. He didn’t know that becoming a caregiver means experiencing love and loss, anger and insight—usually when exhausted and often on the same day. And he didn’t know that moving in with his Mum would challenge and change him more than any other life experience. For the vast number of families who are confronting —or will soon confront—a caregiving journey, Winter Stars offers an intimate, unvarnished portrait of the challenges, choices, and life lessons that lie ahead. As you will hear during our chat we too are facing that same challenge with our Mum. And in all honesty getting hold of Dave's book (which we found quite by luck during our research into caregiving) put into perspective our next choices and literally saved us from the mental anguish of the decision we knew we need to make You can read more and help us reach more people who suffer the anguish of caregiving by visiting Dave on his website - Dave Iverson Author All royalties from the sale of Winter Stars go to support Parkinson’s and eldercare organizations. Excerpt From Chapter 14 "It's Time" … In that gentle late-night light, my mom’s features seemed to soften. As she lost weight, the flesh receded, and her wrinkles smoothed. Her face subtly reformed, taking on the more angular features of her youth, her jaw line firm and thrust forward, her nose more prominent. She was really quite beautiful.I didn’t feel regret. I didn’t feel relief. I just felt like I was where I wanted to be, accompanied, as ever, by Eileen and Sinai.Late one night, I peeked into my mom’s bedroom before entering.  Eileen was sitting by her side with her back to me. I watched for a moment before I realized that Eileen was wearing her prayer shawl and holding her Muslim prayer beads. She was murmuring softly in Hindi. I backed away. The next morning, I told Eileen how touched I was by what I’d seen. She smiled widely and said, “Well, Sinai taught me the Lord’s Prayer, so sometimes I say that, too.” We don't know about you but that was just beautiful 🦋 We dedicate this podcast to all caregivers and in memory of our Mum who passed away on 31st May 2022 aged 92 Thanks for joining us for a our open, thoughtful and meaningful chat with Dave Iverson on this edition of the Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast and hope that if you are ever challenged as we and he were that his book gives you the much needed clarity to make the decision you need to make. The challenges, fear and courage and the three critical foundations to being 'fit for purpose' https://vimeo.com/568830688 We had such a great chat today with our guest Eric Winters on Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast and how the quality of our lives depends on how well we meet our challenges - the ones we choose and the ones that choose us. Like us Eric had a defining moment during a business trip and a drive from Sydney to Canberra and gave up his international corporate life to pursue his passion for teaching self-leadership skills. The Three Critical Foundations To Being Fit For Purpose Whilst you might not think SLEEP, EXERCISE & DIET are relevant then listen in. Exercise as we discussed is The HOPE Molecule and if we think about the instruction we received from the government in the UK during our national lockdown due to the pandemic in 2020 - daily exercise was the ONE thing we were advised we should do. Certainly we can look back on 2020 and it was our daily walk that gave us hope for the future and got us through the weeks and months that followed when our whole retirement lifestyle business model was challenged! The message truly is that we can meet challenges and pursue our biggest reams in life - the quality of our lives depends to a large extent on how well we meet our challenges - the ones we choose and the ones that choose us! Why Do You Want To Do It (sic become an entrepreneur/start a business)? What's Your Idea? Who's It For? What's The Business Model? What Are Your Values? They want entertainment and lifestyle choices. Whole industries are emerging around property downsizing, health and wellness, aged care, medicine, travel, security, finance and law. What skills or experience do you have that people want or need and will create you an income. What's the motivator for wanting to start a business? Is it because you're running out of money or is it because you can't imagine doing nothing much with your time when the 9-5 comes to an end? So many questions to ask yourself... How To Create Buyer Desire Interview With Todd Brown https://vimeo.com/481810439 We've added Closed Captions [CC] on the video so you can read as well as listen Here's just some of the topics that you'll hear us talking about. You just have to listen in and find the ones that peak your interest or that you always wanted to know about. For instance:- Todd's Story and how he got introduced to the world of direct response marketingThe difference between marketing and sellingHow to create buyer desire - it's not about your product or service What you know and have experience of can be a businessWhat we both learned from Dan Kennedy and why the basic marketing principles remain as current today as they were when he first taught themThe difference between strategies and tacticDon't forget where you came from and what you know GOLDEN NUGGETS Marketing is everything that you do that creates demand for your product, your service, your offer before you even talk about your product, your service, your offer... it all about shaping the belief of your prospect and turning their desire into that demand! Marketing when done right makes the selling portion easy and sets up the sale of the product so you don't have to hardcore sell or apply aggressive, obnoxious 'in-your-face' tactics... you just have to present a superior, irresistible no-brainer offer after you've led the prospect to want your thing. That's the difference between marketing and selling That's what they care about. If you don't have that, you don't have a marketing campaign and you don't have a sales message Differentiation in marketing and business is critical. Today there are only two ways to differentiate specifically in your marketing. The first is through your promise... what's the outcome, the transformation, the result. What's the change in your prospect's life that you're promising. What people want to know is what's going to be different about my life? How is this going to fix my problem. How's this going to alleviate my pain. How's this going to fulfil an unmet need or desire in my life. What you need in order to differentiate yourself from the masses is to provide a unique mechanism (how your product or service uniquely works) and explains why it is THE BEST solution for them. You'll hear Todd tell you how this can be applied to absolutely any product or service. Through the education you provide during the process they see that your mechanism is the superior option and when you present your offer they are thankful and you haven't even talked about the features, the price point, the terms or the guarantee Look this is quite a deep topic for someone new to marketing but why not get it right from the outset. We'll invite Todd back to go into it in a bit more detail next year because it's seriously the stuff that matters and we're truly grateful that we learned it and apply it in our business (as you'll hear) and it gives us the edge. You see the transformation our clients and prospects want are to have the retirement lifestyle that they projected for themselves whilst they were working 40 hours a week for 40 years and if they haven't got it they have to find a vehicle too get the required money to be able to have the experiences they want. Interestingly it was his article "It's Time To Retire The Word "Retirement" that prompted us to reach out and ask him to tell us what prompted him to write it and give you his insight. TIME TO RETIRE THE WORD RETIREMENT I like the word "retirement". I always have. During my working years, the more I planned for and anticipated my retirement, the more I became optimistic about it.Don't get me wrong, retirement isn't a panacea any more than everyday life during your working years is. There will be good days, bad days, and average days. Good things will happen, bad things will happen, and sometimes it will seem like nothing happensMore than anything else, I cherish my freedom, which will be there no matter what kind of day I might be having... Dave Hughes https://vimeo.com/481992669 But back to that word “retirement” and all the baggage that may come with it. Dave introduces you to what he believes is a much more optimistic word to describe the possibility-filled opportunity that comes once you leave work behind. His preferred term for retirement is “renaissance.”  We rather like that don't you? The modern meaning of renaissance is a renewal of life, vigor, interest, rebirth, revival. Like Dave that sums up what retirement should be all about and we're sure our living the retirement lifestyle podcast listeners and readers of our blog will agree! We also agree on the importance of thinking about what you would like your retirement to look like and make a plan to create it. Listen in as he shares his story and the lessons from becoming a decorated aviator earning a six figure income and a young family to facing bankruptcy following the collapse of the real estate marketing in the recession of 2008 https://vimeo.com/476644981 Through sharing his story and how he transitioned into entrepreneurship you'll discover that facing the fear of change can bring about a whole new perspective on life and actually you might find with the right attitude towards change a whole new world will open up just as it did for JT and for us. As of now, there's no way to know if there's another recession around the corner. You may be able to kind of predict it. But when you're making a decision about your transition in life, your career transition, you're thinking what might happen, but there's really no way to know. So you can't grasp the past because it's gone. You can't grasp the future because it hasn't happened. Really the only thing you can go off of is what's in front of you now. The thing I would encourage people to do is you have to make decisions and choices, two different things based on what you have internally. Skills, experience, wisdom that have come from your past, the vision, the hopes, the dreams, the plans that help you build the future. That's what you have right now. And if you focus on those things and you build your future around the things you've learned from the past, the skills you've developed, then you have a really great shot at making whatever you want to have happen in the future come at you as opposed to making a decision based on what you think you should do...It's about what you're going to do now based on who you are as a person, what you've developed skill-wise and wisdom-wise. On the topic of the current pandemic "We can't put Pandora, you know, Pandora's box is open. We can't close it, we're here, this is what we got" We can't close it, we're here, this is what we got. "I wish that I didn't have this." "I wish this didn't happen." And that's a very reasonable and natural thing. And I think it happens to every single person at some point, whether you've hit threshold and you're fed up and you're burnt out, or maybe it's the very first part and it's that shock and awe of, "Oh my gosh, this is happening." HOW TO FACE THE FEAR OF CHANGE - THE WISH, WANT, WILL FORMULA Well, the next question is, "Okay, so you may wish for this, but what do you want to have happen?" It takes the focus off of the shock and awe or the trauma or whatever it is. You may not love what you want, but what do you want? And I think so often we don't give ourselves that grace, we don't give ourselves that headspace, that opportunity to actually go, "Well, what do I really want?" "Well, I want for this virus to go away." Okay, that's awesome. Now, let me ask you a question, inside your realm of control, what you can control, what do you want? That's different. Now we have some power. We've taken the power back. Before when we say, "I wish." We give our power away. And that's where the fear comes in, because we're like, we feel powerless. "There's nothing I could do about this! This is so frustrating, I feel overwhelmed." Well, guess what? When you say, "Well, what is it you want?" Now we bring it back into what we can control. Okay, but what can you control? What do you want for yourself? Now we take a deep breath and we think like a leader. And we start talking about what we can control inside our lives. Once you get control of what you really want, In this episode of Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we introduce you to one of our great friends and mentors JT DeBolt and ask him to share his wisdom around facing the fear of change and transitioning from something you loved and has ended and ... He shares some wonderful insights into his journey, how he became an author and why a subtle shift in focus is not only a more uplifting and fulfilling way of conducting business but the most financially profitable way. Although for years he was best known for his book Endless Referrals, over the past few years it’s his business parable,  The Go-Giver (co-authored with John David Mann) that has captured the imagination of his readers... and that's how we first met many years ago. https://vimeo.com/403722465 We had just got a copy of The Go-Giver and everything just fell into place so we recorded a video (Facebook Live didn't exist then) straight on to our Facebook profile. It automatically appeared on Twitter and Bob being the Go-Giver that he is immediately responded. Our relationship was cemented forever. Bob's story really is one of those never ending stories and we could have spoken for hours but we wanted to grab those golden nuggets of wisdom for you We believe he sums it up when he talks about entrepreneurship in a changing world where it's important to think not about the money but about being of service to others. How to focus on the other person and how their life will be touched through the product or service you are selling or referring and the additional assistance and help you are able to provide in the course of the transaction. In other words "how can I be of value to another human being" There is so much value he provides throughout our time together and hope that you drink it all in and take what he shares and think about what you could do in your retirement years that might be of service to others while financially rewarding Bob is a huge supporter of what he refers to as the 'Free Enterprise' system, believing that the amount of money you make is directly proportional to how many people you serve. We couldn't agree more. Plus of course he's a cat lover just like us You can find out more and get in touch with Bob via his website and learn how he teaches business professionals how to leverage their network of everyday contacts into a never ending stream of new prospects. If you're looking at entrepreneurship in retirement we would highly recommend you pick up a copy of the Go-Giver and learn though this wonderful parable how a subtle shift in focus helps you provide exceptional value, expand your influence and dramatically increase your income. If you want access to his mini-course you can request it from him here For our part, If you’re struggling to create a life where you feel happy and successful, doing that you love and feel cherished by the people you work with then maybe it's time for a change. The world is hectic and everyone is a little scared right now and feeling discouraged and frustrated so maybe it's time for a new adventure We absolutely love that we can show people the way to entrepreneurship and find the right vehicle for them All it takes is a decision to reach out and get in touch with us Thanks for joining us for The Go Giver Way If you haven't yet downloaded our free book Living The Retirement Lifestyle - Your Secret To Living The Dream Lifestyle you can grab your copy here It's packed with ideas and a calculator so you can be better prepared for your retirement and take action now. She's passionate about wealth creation and entrepreneurship and particularly for those entering a new chapter in their lives. As kids, we were told, “the sky’s the limit!” and “you can be anything you want to be!” But as you grew up, you slowly started to put limitations on yourself. Life happened and you got into debt or thought that you were never going to make enough money to do what you really wanted…but the dreams didn’t go away ~ Sharon Lechter We're here with Sharon to re-ignite those dreams and give you some words of encouragement from our many years of experience We began the interview by asking for her to comment on a statement made by one of our previous guests Robert Laura who we spoke to earlier this year on the Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast I believe starting a business for retirement will become one of the biggest concepts in the 21st Century" "I think more people particularly with what's going on in the world this year are understanding that they need to be in control of their own lives. They need to be in control of their own financial lives and it's easier if you have assets (assets are sexy she says!) Too many people chase money. I say invest our time into buying, building and creating income producing assets because when you have assets that are generating revenue for you, retirement is no longer a problem for you. When you have assets working for you then you get back time and that allows you to enjoy your later years" https://vimeo.com/465853361 Naturally we talked about a lot more things and had her answer some wonderful questions submitted by our friends and subscribers "What should I look for when starting my business? When I search for ideas just about everything I see seems too good to be true and I'm totally confused" -John from the UK recently retired after a successful corporate career and wanting to do more in his retirement. He's also conscious that his pension may not outlive him so he wants to do something worthwhile and generate an additional income At 6:14 Sharon answers his question suggesting he looks at what she calls the personal success equation. When you're trying to figure out what business to invest in it's good to look at your passion and your talent. Your passion can be something you love or something to get mad about. She uses her own example to explain " my passion was I was mad when teaching kids about money. My talent was my accounting background and all of my publishing background. The success equation in Three Feet From Gold will show you how this works Combine Passion, something that makes your heart sing, with Talent, something you excel in by the right Association with successful people or organisations, and Action concrete steps you can take toward your goal, and then add your Faith, the unwavering belief in yourself, and you will have your own unique Success Equation You can download your gift from Sharon PersonalSuccessEquation.com It will help you walk through your own personal success equation and challenge you on things that you might want to do Today successful businesses solve a problem or a need. We have a lot of problems today and a lot of needs. So we have a lot of opportunity. Most people see them as obstacles but you can turn these into opportunities. Train yourself to recognise how you can solve a problem or serve a need and then you're going to help a lot of others as well as helping yourself financially! We couldn't agree more because after all that's how we've run our business the past decade helping people in or approaching retirement start an online business to fill the income gap and have the lifestyle goals they set for themselves way before they reached retirement. Long story short, our retirement lifestyle plans were blown out of the water when the Global Financial Crisis hit the world and we lost much of our retirement nest egg. We're not here to advocate network marketing as the only solution because there are many but it remains a good choice given other benefits aside "safety" on the Maslows Heirarchy of Needs such as self-actualization, love and belonging and esteem Maslows Heirarchy Of Needs During our interview we asked Robert to expand on his statement in his 2017 Forbes article about the trends he's studied regards the network marketing business model which suggests that "network marketing can play a crucial role in how well baby boomers and others transition into retirement...that once you strip out the financial aspects you get a very different picture... retirement is not all about money." A successful transition from work-life to home-life is more than about money and there are plenty of people with substantial amounts of money saved for retirement that are completely miserable. with many wanting to learn new things and be a part of a community. From the clients and people he speaks with Roberts has found that they are always reading, posting and sharing something inspirational... have goals and use the products they are selling to improve the way they look and feel. Add that to the fact that network marketing companies have local meetings and annual events members get out of the house, build knowledge, develop new skills and have the opportunity to meet new people. From our experience in building an online business education business ourselves and travelling around the world speaking and training we see these two distinct groups of people - those who are there to learn how to generate income in their retirement and those who just want to socialise with like minded people. He says if you imagine this - your life as you get older - its a great analogy and fitting for you reading this if you're of retirement age or nearing it... When you're in your twenties , you're at Base Camp. It doesn't matter if you screw up and make bad decisions... you can recover. You've got time on your side but as you start climbing and ou are in your 20's and 30's you're pretty much less than two or three hundred feet up. It's not a big deal. If you packed the wrong jacket you're not going to die. If you wear the wrong shoes, you're not going to die. But when you're 25,000 feet and you didn't take oxygen. If you don't have the right jacket and there's a storm coming and you get hit by that storm, you're dead! Financially you're dead. Emotionally you're dead; you might even be physically dead with all that's going on right now because you made bad decisions at the bottom which impacts you at the top. Many of us are not thinking ahead.
