When I’m 64

It’s the strangest thing but after watching a fabulous film called ‘Yesterday’ featuring the music of The Beatles (great film by the way) suddenly the song ‘When I’m 64‘ (Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band) kept popping into our head

Maybe because we’ve passed that milestone and 66 is approaching any day now for Susan!

Who knows…

But since it’s right there top of mind why not go down memory lane and think about what was going on in 1967 when that song and album was released

Susan would have been 12 years old and Chris would have been 14

Certainly not thinking about retirement LOL!

More about doing well at school, being with friends, playing sport and not a care in the world

It was the ‘Hippie’ era and life was sweet

LYRICS OF WHEN I’M 64

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine

If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

You’ll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four

What were you doing at 64?

For Susan the year would be 2019

It was the year Mum was diagnosed with Alzhimers and we began to plan for the changes this would make to our lives including moving home to our current location making it easier for her to continue living independently and for us to support her

Retire Inspire! the book where we were collaborative authors was published and we started our Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast on the back of the stories we read of how other professionals can achieve and have achieved a totally fulfilling retirement their way

We invested in a training that would lead us to being invited to Las Vegas to meet Tony Robbins. That course completely changed the trajectory of our business and renewed our vision for teaching and training which we focus on to this very day

We also finally got to meet Robert Kiyosaki in London

For Chris the year would be 2017

Lots of things happened in 2017

We met Gary Vaynerchuk in London, and got to ask him a question about becoming an entrepreneur in retirement. His response was classic Gary V!

We spent quality time at our home in Spain enjoying the sunshine and working on our business.

The highlight was definitely an invitation to Singapore where we were invited to speak at an event. It’s a place that had been on our ‘bucket list’ for a long time and we wanted to spend time there together. The event was amazing and we met some incredible people but to be able to visit those iconic places like Marina Bay Sands, The Harbour, Raffles left us feeling truly blessed

And on a personal note having lost the last of our beloved cats and feeling bereft, we fostered a mischievous ginger tom who we called BOB after the cat made famous in the book and film A Street Cat Named Bob We felt their stories were so similar it was the perfect fit!

We’ll never forget him but he has a perfect forever home now

So that’s us at 64!

In 2021 as we write this we’re still the midst of a global pandemic due to the coronavirus and Susan’s Birthday on 19th July is set to be the date that the UK has said it will lift restrictions it has placed on it’s citizens for the past year or more. If it happens it will be a very special day we’ll remember for the rest of our lives

For Susan though it represents the day she can draw here ‘old age‘ pension but don’t tell anyone will you

Hope you enjoyed our trip down memory lane with when I’m 64 and if you are 64 or over would love to hear what you were doing in 1967
